Cleveland – Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish issued the following statement:
“The recent U.S. Health and Human Services Department decision to de-fund the Cuyahoga County Teen Pregnancy Prevention program is misguided and dangerous to the health of our young women. Since the Teen Pregnancy Prevention program began in 2010, teen births have declined by 41 percent. Preventing teen births also decreases the incidence of infant mortality and the number of abortions in the U.S.
In Cuyahoga County, education has focused on communities where the teen pregnancy rate is higher than the state and national rates and in communities where there is a higher rate of infant mortality. We must continue to support our communities and young women. I call upon the Department to reconsider its decision.”
