Cuyahoga County, NOVA, and Greater Cleveland Food Bank Team Up for Voter Registration
CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County staff and partners are celebrating National Voter Registration Day by helping residents sign up to vote. Today employees from the Department of Health and Human Services, Northeast Ohio Voter Advocates, and the Cleveland Food Bank helped residents at the Garden Valley Food Pantry get important information and resources to make sure they are qualified and registered to vote.
“The right to vote is the centerpiece of a free and open democracy,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “We must make it easier, not harder, to register and vote. This voter registration drive is one example of Cuyahoga County leading efforts in voter engagement by ensuring voter access and expanding voter education. We are proud to partner with Northeast Ohio Voter Advocates and the Cleveland Food Bank on this crucial initiative.”
“NOVA applauds Cuyahoga County's efforts to increase voting. Voting is a commitment to ourselves, our community, and the highest ideals of democracy,” said Susan Alcorn, President of Northeast Ohio Voter Advocates. “We recommend that all registered voters proactively check their registration status at the Board of Elections (boe.cuyahogacounty.us "my voting info"), especially if they've moved or haven't voted in a long time.”
While voting in person is a tradition for many, voting by mail using an absentee ballot continues to grow in popularity because it is convenient, reliable, and saves time. The Board of Elections is mailing Vote-by-Mail applications to all registered voters this year.
The deadline to register to vote is October 9th for this November’s general election.
