Cuyahoga County Ensures Children and Families Get Child Support

CLEVELANDThe Cuyahoga County Office of Child Support Services held their 5th annual Employers Workshop on Tuesday September 25th. The purpose of the workshop was to collaborate with employers by providing instruction and training to payroll and benefits personnel on the implementation of child support and medical support orders and ways to simplify remitting payments on behalf of their employees.

“The Office of Child Support Services aims to ensure that children and families are able to rely upon regular and consistent support,” stated County Executive Armond Budish. “We are proud to work with employers and other child support partners to make sure that children and families in Cuyahoga County receive the resources they need to succeed.”

“The Office of Child Support Services is excited to have such great participation this year from our employer community, their engagement with our office helps us to provide support to families in Cuyahoga County,” said Kevin Gowan, Interim Director, Office of Child Support Services.

This year over 120 employers were in attendance, representing 88 organizations. Employers are responsible for withholding 72% of all income and medical support orders in Cuyahoga County. In 2017, employers collected over $165 million for families in Cuyahoga County. Annually, the Cuyahoga Child Support Program touches the lives of 141,008 children.

Employers are a vital source of child support collections and improving communications and partnerships between the Office of Child Support Services and employers is paramount to increasing regular and consistent support.
