Cuyahoga County Renews Interpreter Contract for Emergency Calls

Cuyahoga County, OH – Cuyahoga County has entered into a contract with Voiance Language Services for language interpretation services for Public Safety Communications. Any caller needing an interpreter when contacting The Cuyahoga Emergency Communications System (CECOMS) will be connected with an interpreter within 2.9 seconds. There is no charge to the caller for this service. This is a continuation of the previous interpretation services contract.

“In an emergency, language barriers must be removed quickly, every time,” said Public Safety and Justice Chief Brandy Carney. “The continuation of the interpreter service allows us to respond quickly and effectively to those in need of assistance.”

CECOMS is a 24-Hour, 7-Day a week, public safety communication system that provides emergency dispatch services, 911 call answering, Emergency Alert System broadcasts and other communications services. This includes landline calls originating in Olmsted Township.

Every 911 call that is placed from a cellular phone in Cuyahoga County, except for most city of Cleveland calls (CECOMS will route city of Cleveland calls on an as-needed basis), are first routed to CECOMS, where call-takers quickly ascertain the location of the emergency and transfer the call to the appropriate public safety dispatch center.

CECOMS serves all citizens by the coordination of emergency services including 9-1-1, hazardous materials, disaster planning, and public education to maintain a healthy and safe environment through the efficient and effective application of resources and technology.
